Back To School With ECHO

ECHO Delivers Back to School Items to Needy Brandon Families

Over $22,000 worth of school supplies to help Brandon area students get back to school with necessities.

VENUE: Back to School "Stuff the Bus Event"
DATE: Saturday, August 14, 2010
TIME:
9:30 AM - Noon
LOCATION:
ECHO, 507 N. Parsons Avenue, Brandon, FL 33511

BRANDON, FL – The Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO) of Brandon has been supporting needy families in the Greater Brandon area with school necessities for years, but this year's record event has grown exponentially with the help of Tampa area charities and businesses.

The purpose of the program is to provide 430 children whose families are experiencing a financial hardship, with the tools they need to succeed in the upcoming school year. A specific need for many of these children are new shoes and school supplies. Quality used children’s shoes are not readily available, nor are they the best solution for the problem. While both are basic necessities, they often are too expensive for needy families. By providing new shoes and school supplies for children their self-esteem is enhanced and the start of school is made a more pleasant event.

Families who have visited ECHO from June to August have been notified with this added benefit. In addition, ECHO will also meet with other local charities to explain the program and provide them with some signup sheets as well. Each child will receive a whole package of new socks & underwear, a $15 shoe voucher for Payless Shoe store, a backpack filled with grade appropriate school supplies.

Value of items being distributed

  • $15 Payless shoe voucher
  • $12 pack of underwear & socks
  • $ 25 backpack filled with supplies
  • Total per child $52
  • Total price giveaway $52 x 430 children - $22,360

An outpouring of support from the Tampa Bay community has been the catalyst for allowing ECHO to supply children with their back to school needs. ECHO was pleasantly surprised to receive generous donations and support from the following organizations:

  • SunCoast Schools Federal Credit Union
  • BB& T- Hillsborough County locations
  • HSBC
  • Metropolitan Ministries
  • Citicorp
  • Optimist Club of Tampa Bay
  • Greater Brandon Kiwanis Club
  • Liberty Mutual Group - Tampa

ECHO has always relied on the generosity and philanthropy of Tampa Bay, and specifically, Greater Brandon organizations to support East Hillsborough's families in their time of need.
